Optimization of Extrusion Blow Molding Using Soft Computing and Taguchi Method

This paper presents a soft computing strategy to determine the optimum die openings of parison programming of extrusion blow molding process. The design objective is to obtain a uniform thickness of blown parts. The proposed strategy, Fuzzy Neural-Taguchi, first establishes a back propagation network using Taguchi’s experimental array to predict the relationship between design variables and response. Engineering knowledge is thus applied to genetic algorithm using fuzzy rules to improve search efficiency. This study uses the finite element simulation software, BlowSim, to simulate the thickness distribution of blown parts. The comparison of results demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
